Sound and Installation Art

Margarita Wenzel creates spatial installations that function as platforms for collective listening and shared experience. Drawing on her background of being born in East Berlin and raised in Iran, her work examines how power structures persist through technical and institutional infrastructures, and how these systems can be both displayed and disrupted through processes of fragmentation and re-voicing. By bringing together sonic, sculptural, and performative strategies, she forms “relational ensembles” – immersive environments in which multiple voices and views interweave without imposing hierarchy, positioning the act of listening as political, poetic, and open-ended.

She studied at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, where she received the distinction of Meisterschülerin and later held a teaching position. Her work has been presented internationally in Germany, France, Belgium, and Turkey, including a residency at Fondation Fiminco in Paris.

At the MIP:Lab (Campus Biotech Geneva), in collaboration with Dr. Karolis Degutis, Wenzel will develop “Body After Voice”, investigating the relationship between AI voice cloning and neural imagery to explore how synthetic voices reshape perception and the boundaries between presence and representation.
