BLERTA AXHIJA

  • ART & TERRITORY

*1996, Geneva. Lives and works in Zurich.

Period of residence: July – September 2022

In collaboration with the Canton of Geneva and the Villa Bernasconi

Blerta Axhija studied architecture at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL BSc and MSc) where she graduated in 2020. Her master’s work analyzes the architecture of Geneva squats – urban components capable of blurring the boundaries between public and private and bringing together uses usually separated in the functionalist fabric of the city – and explores the potential that such a type would have in absorbing new urban states.
After her studies, she worked as an architect in the office of Camponovo Baumgartner in Zurich, where she worked on competitions and urban development projects. In parallel to her professional activity, she is pursuing a reflection on the notion of urban transition from a non-functionalist perspective.
On the occasion of this residency, she wishes to develop these themes on the scale of the Praille-Acacias-Vernets sector by questioning the criteria of fabrication and representation of the current and future territory. It will also be a question of revealing the intrinsic qualities of a territory in transition in order to try to extract alternative criteria of urban planning and to look for the graphic representations of these other possibilities.
